How to Zip a File Tutorial

It is actually a type of format that compresses a file. This results to reducing the file size compared to the uncompressed file and it is easier to download. Using the zip reduces the file size by approximately ten percent from its original size.
Before going further with 'How to zip a file?', it is important to know on how to recognize a zip file. Any zip files can be determined through its file name extension which is 'zip'. It means that each zip file name ends with 'zip' such as howtozipafile.zip.
Also check the built-in support of zip programs in your operating system. Generally Windows ME and Windows XP support the basic zip program. There are many types of programs the managed zip files. Some of it can be downloaded free from the internet. You can encounter zip program that is either license or shareware version.
After you confirm that the zip program is installed in your system and now you are also able to identify a zip file, we can now learn on how to zip a file.
To begin with on how to zip a file, open the zip file. In the upper portion of the zip screen, there will be option buttons - the new and open. Choose the open icon and it will lead you to the location files such desktop or my documents where you want to store your zip file.
Now let us say you opted to place your zip file in the desktop. Now select your destination directory and write your preferred file name. Remember that the file name always ends in 'zip'. So the new zip file in the desktop can be names as howtozipafile.zip.
After the destination directory is finalized, it will prompt you directly to the window where you have the options to add a file. Now you can highlight the file, let us say 'how to zip a file tutorial' file and click add button. This file automatically adds to the zip file entitled howtozipafile.zip in your desktop.
Now you may close the window and you completed the process of zipping a file.
There is also another option to do it which is easier. Go to the destination where you save the file you want to zip. Let us say it is saved in desktop. Highlight the file and right click your mouse. From the drop down, you will find an option 'send to'. Choose send to and click compressed (zipped) file. Then a new folder reflects in the same file destination where you saved the zipped file. The zip folder generally copies the zipped file name.
How to zip a file is not an easy procedure to follow. One should know how to use it as it is very helpful in saving space and sending big file size documents.
